Expiry explained
“Expiry” can mean three different things in Oxrion. They are independent of each other, and a protected file stops running as soon as any expiry that applies to it has passed.
| Free plan expiry | File expiry | License expiry | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Applies to | Files protected on Free | The protected files | One license (one host) |
| Who sets it | Oxrion, automatically | You, with the Expiry option | You, in the Licenser |
| When | 30 days after protecting | A date and time you choose | A date and time you choose, or never |
| On which hosts | Everywhere | Everywhere | Only that license’s host |
| To extend it | Protect again (on a paid plan or with credits, the files don’t expire) | Protect again | Issue a new license |
Free plan expiry
Section titled “Free plan expiry”Files protected on the Free plan run for 30 days from the moment you protect them. They also carry a short Protected by Oxrion TRIAL VERSION note at the top. Files protected on a paid plan or with credits have neither. See Plans, quota & credits.
File expiry
Section titled “File expiry”The Expiry option makes the files stop running after a date and time you choose — for example a trial build that should stop working in two weeks. It applies on every server and doesn’t need a license. File expiry is part of the protected files; to change it, protect the source again.
License expiry
Section titled “License expiry”A license can have its own expiry. When it passes, that license stops working, but the same files keep running on hosts with a valid license. To extend it, issue a new license — the files don’t need to be protected again. This is the usual way to sell yearly or monthly access.
Which one should I use?
Section titled “Which one should I use?”- Selling to customers with renewals → License expiry. You can extend each customer separately without touching the files.
- A trial or demo that must stop for everyone → File expiry.
- Showing the date in the file → Turn on Expiry date in Stamp. It shows the file’s expiry (the Free plan’s 30 days or your file expiry), not license expiry.
Times and clocks
Section titled “Times and clocks”Every expiry is an exact moment in time, checked by the Loader against the server’s clock — the server’s time zone doesn’t matter. Make sure your servers keep the correct time. The Loader also refuses to run files when the server clock is set to before the moment they were protected.
