Recovery mode

Recovery mode is an option you enable when encoding, so that you can later restore a protected file back to its original source. It’s your safety net: if you ever lose an original, you can get it back — as long as you have the key.

Recovery is a deliberate choice made when you encode — it can’t be added afterward. In the Configuration panel, turn on Recovery and choose the public key to use (from your saved recovery keypairs, or by pasting one).

Recovery is built around a keypair that only you control:

  • When encoding, you attach a public key.
  • The matching private key stays entirely with you — Oxrion never stores it.
  • Later, you restore the file by providing that private key in the Recovery tool.

Because the private key never leaves your hands, only you can recover your files. This is the trade-off Oxrion makes on purpose: maximum protection against key leaks, in exchange for you being responsible for keeping the private key safe.

You create and manage recovery keypairs on the Keys page. When Oxrion generates a keypair, it shows the private key once and never keeps a copy — so save it the moment it appears. You can also bring your own keypair.
